About Us
Widya Luvtari is a non-profit Geelong-based Indonesian traditional dance group.
The origin of Widya Luvtari comes from Sanskrit & Javanese language ‘Widya’ meaning knowledge and ‘Luvtari’ which refers to a love of dancing.
Through beautiful Indonesia traditional dances with gamelan music, body movements and traditional costumes we strive to bring Indonesia´s culture to you.
The group was established by Rini Meerbeek and a group of highly committed dancers. Our aim is to nurture Indonesian culture to Indonesian - Australian youth and to the wider public through dance and performance.
Our dancers have performed with other Indonesian dance groups; Maria Leeds from Sanggar Nimar Laras and Saman Melbourne, to introduce and promote Indonesian dance in Victoria.
A variety of dances from all over the Indonesian Archipelago are taught in the group and we have performed for private functions, festivals, multicultural, public and community events in Victoria.
We offer dance classes, private lessons and workshops in Geelong. For more information about performances, click here.
